- Boudhanath -

Keepers of the Himalayas. The word Sherpa is synonymous with the Himalayan realm making them princes of the beautiful, yet sometimes treacherous, landscape. A cheerful, hardy and courageous clan, the Sherpas have proven their mettle constantly over the years. Whether on treks or expeditions, they make trusty companions.

In Nepal, the more famous Sherpa settlements are in the Everest region of Khumbu, although they may be found scattered all over the eastern part of the kingdom. They are believed to have originated from the northeastern part of Tibet crossing over about five centuries ago. Most of them follow the ‘Nyingmapa’ (Red Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism and approach life with great respect. They are deeply religious and mani walls, prayer flags and small monasteries line every route on many mountain trails.

The dietary needs are simple and consist mainly of potatoes, grown locally, buckwheat with dairy products and meat got from the sturdy naks and dzums.

The Sherpa and Sherpani usually hold equal position in a family, with the women handling both the finances and the homestead.

Our Most experienced and professional Sherpas who are your trusty companions during your trek are,
